Potty training was the worst!! I don't think I have had such a hard time with anything else that had to do with L learning something. Potty training was by far the hardest thing for me as a mom to deal with. I did give up on several occasions.
When L turned 1 I started getting her into potty training mode. I wanted her to get used to the idea of it and wanted to see if she could be potty trained by the time she was 2. Everyone and there mother was giving me advice and telling me that it was either really hard or really easy for them. I had one Gentleman offer to give me his wife's number because supposedly she was the potty training guru!
I tried taking her diaper off and just letting her go bear bummed for the weekend and she peed everywhere and wanted her diaper on. So that was a bust. Yes I could have tried a little longer with her but I didn't want to have to clean and sanitize my entire house every hour.
I tried giving her rewards for peeing we started with m&m's and that lasted a week, Then it was Kinder eggs which lasted a while but she got to the point where she would run to the potty sit on it not do anything and expect an egg and then pee in her diaper. We tried Shopkins and again it worked for a short time but then was expected every time her bum hit the seat.
We finally went to Walmart one day and were walking around. L was just over 3 and she noticed the big cars that you can drive and she wanted one sooo bad. So we made a deal for every pee on the potty she got a dollar and for every poo she got 2 dollars. Well you should have seen the sparkle in her eyes! That was it since that day she has had a total of 2 accidents and they weren't her fault she made almost $100 before I cut her off and she was fully trained.
Once she was totally day trained I took diapers away at night as soon as I started noticing that she was getting up in the night and in the morning to go potty. I keep her potty in the bedroom for those occasions it took a week to have her night trained and we have been going strong ever since.
It's true what they say once they are ready they will let you know and it will be easy. Until then it's a pain in the butt haha!
